Topic 1: Introduces to students the basics of how to write
and learn the Chinese characters in the most efficient way.
Chinese characters developed from picographs which were
formed in a regular way with a certain number of components
that are comparable to the 26 letters in the English alphabet.
However , these components are different from the letters
in the English alphabet in that
1) the components are much larger in number, about 300 in
which over 100 are in common use;
2) the components are not arranged in a horizontal line
but in the upper-lower, left-right, inside-outside and other
forms;
3) the components are combined in a logical or meaningful
way.
Therefore, once one knows these basic components and rules
for arranging them, one can write almost all the Chinese
characters. This is not time-saving approach, it is also
an easy way to remember the form and meaning of a character. |

Research Topic 2:
The American poet Ezra Pound once said, "The easiest language
in the world for writing poetry is Chinese." And in the words
of E. E. Cummings, another American poet, "Chinese poets
are painters." The course is one which uses words to explain
abd pictures to illustrate the form and structure of Chinese characters.
Therefore, it is both a collection of poetry and a picture album,
so to speak.
Each Chinese character has a form of its own, representing a particular
sound and a particular meaning, one at least. In other words,
each character is a unity of form, sound and meaning. The student
of Chinese must call on every one of the individuals if he or
she is to really know the personality of each. |
